The "Marinada" Cultural Association

"La Marinada" was founded in 1976 on an informal basis thanks to a group of young people, who suggested pursuing a number of activities, such as parties, mountain trekking, theatre, cultural activities and so on. Despite only being a few people, scant resources and limitations from living in a village (a lack of premises, services, infrastructure, etc), the activities did not decline either in number or quality. Most notable are the Festa Major, or village fiesta, which has become one of the most popular in the region with budgets greater than those of towns thirty times larger, the Christmas activities, which include cultural weeks, recitals, lectures, Nativity plays, the shepherds’ story and, finally, the Living Nativity.

When it started, the average age of Association members was 16 and a good few of the fifteen founder members still bear the weight of the organisation. Today, the Group, legally established as the “ Marinada Cultural Association”, has over 350 members, nearly all of whom work on the Nativity Play and in other activities staged in the village. Without the hard work of the association, it would be impossible to say where Sant Guim de la Plana would be. It has been an indisputable driving force in raising awareness for recovering our history and in bringing together many people from outside the town who have voluntarily contributed to making the Sant Guim de la Plana Living Nativity something so serious and well done.
